RECOMMENDED FOR: Rooms that need a well controlled acoustic subspace in which otherwise would be acoustically hostile rooms. Used in an array form, (Circular or Rectangular around a particular point) Studio Columns provide a broadband of sound absorption that can be expanded and/or moved at any time.
Details
Affordability: Studio Columns offers 50% to 75% of savings (and in some cases even more!) vs. other arrays.
No Resonant Frequency: Competing devices are most effective at their one tuned (resonant) frequency and give uneven sound fields due to the devices' different diameters. Studio Columns, being passive acoustic devices, and constructed of foam specifically fabricated for acoustics, do not have a resonant frequency.
Broadband Absorption: Studio Columns offers superb broad bandwidth control that provide extreme linearity. Acoustical testing shows that Studio Columns across the testing bandwidth differs only +/- 1.9 Sabins. (This is statistically nearly flat and very hard to accomplish.)
Portability: Studio Columns are very light. Because of this, they can be moved, stored, and configured whenever necessary
Modularity: Studio Columns are sold in singles, so you can make as large or as small of an array as necessary. And when the time comes, more Studio Columns can be purchased to create larger and/or new arrays.
Symmetrical Absorption & Refraction: Other arrays use devices of different diameters, which absorb frequencies differently, and have different refraction characteristics. These competing arrays create hot spots and nulls in the sound field (noting that some are only being absorptive on 1/2 their circumference). With the common knowledge that room sound is generated by sound waves and there interaction with room boundaries, it becomes clear that you need a full 360 Degrees of sound proofing foam that Studio Columns provides for the uniform control of axial, tangential & oblique sound waves for both outside and inside the array.
Foolproof Design: Other devices designed for arrays have been said to (subjectively & measurably) "not work" in some environments. But for the Studio Columns, based on the physics of sound control, their 360 degree design & its non-resonant foam, there is just no way they can't work in any room!
Bass Absorption: Studio Columns provide a great amount of low frequency absorption at all times. Universally the least understood, difficult to accomplish and most overlooked aspect of acoustic control is low frequency control. Mostly all rooms need a lot more bass absorption then most people realize. Studio Columns can provide this low frequency absorption, no matter where in the room they are placed.
Added Bonus: Also, as an added bonus, all Studio columns come with Female Broadband Absorbers - free of charge! After they are done protecting the Studio Columns During shipment, they can be used for additional bass trapping, as well as broadband absorption Please make NO mistake that they are just "packaging material" used in shipping Studio Columns. They provide about the same amount of sound absorption as the Studio Columns, so you can be sure they can be used to help tame your sound problems.

NOTES: ALL acoustical (aka sound proofing) foam products (charcoal & colors) have a 2LB Density.
ALL acoustical products (charcoal & colors) meet a Class B, California 117 flame retardant specifications. Generally, this means if you were to briefly expose our foam to a flame, the foam will self-extinguish.
We do not encourage anyone to try flame tests themselves. We don't want anyone getting hurt. Also, please check building codes before installing our acoustic foam, because different building codes apply to different locations. |
